LINEAR: Reaching beyond the horizon

LINEAR
Reaching beyond the horizon

The name LINEAR has a dual inspiration. On the one hand, it pays tribute to Lincoln Near‑Earth Asteroid Research (LINEAR), the NASA programme for finding and charting potential asteroid threats to Earth. On the other, it references the product’s perfect linear alignment with the track.

A response to the evolution of electrified track.

Electrified track has long been a flexible lighting solution, yet early technology was bulky, less efficient and offered limited performance.

LEDs changed everything, making it possible to design smaller, more efficient and far more precise luminaires. Since then, tracks have moved into retail, offices, restaurants; spaces that demand higher output, finer control and a cleaner aesthetic.

LINEAR was created for this new era and offers its own distinctive answer.

A technical challenge meets a design opportunity.

Our goal was clear: create a luminaire that blends into the track while delivering everything the system can offer. The result had to:
1. Follow the line of the rail without breaking it.
2. Have a compact footprint.
3. Incorporate top-tier technical features.
4. Use premium materials.

That result is LINEAR, an emergency luminaire for track that fulfils all four requirements.

Maximum integration, maximum performance.

Purpose built for three phase electrified tracks, LINEAR delivers unparalleled integration: a compact footprint, a proprietary flat lens that sits flush with the body and a concealed adapter inside the rail to keep things sleek.

Its coated aluminium housing shares the track’s visual language, reinforcing the sense of continuity. Rounded contours blend naturally with conventional track lighting: no sharp edges, a preference for simple lines. A choice of colour combinations ensures effortless integration in any space.

Three phase electrified tracks.

An electrified track is an extruded aluminium profile containing conductors that power both conventional and emergency luminaires.

Types of electrified tracks:

UNIVERSAL THREE PHASE TRACK:
Three live conductors (L1, L2, L3) plus neutral (N). One live conductor must be reserved exclusively for emergency lighting.

UNIVERSAL THREE PHASE TRACK WITH DATA BUS:
In addition to three live conductors (L1, L2, L3) plus neutral (N), two data conductors (C1, C2) manage switching commands. Each LINEAR includes a circuit selector for choosing its phase (L1, L2, L3). Where on/off is handled via orders to C1 and C2, reserving a dedicated phase (L1, L2, L3) for emergency lighting is unnecessary (subject to local regulations).

Proprietary optical design.

LINEAR is engineered to the same exacting standards as SPICA, including its proprietary optics. A 12 mm lens with a purpose designed refractive zone delivers optimised photometric curves, ensuring wide coverage and outstanding uniformity:

220 LM/1 LX and 400 LM/1 LX LENSES: The distribution resembles butterfly or bat wings: peak intensity at 60° and a dip at 0°. The result is a 1 lx pattern that spans the largest possible area for wider coverage.

NEW 220 LM AND 400 LM/10.8 LX LENSES: These brand new optics, designed entirely in house by Daisalux’s advanced optics and mechanical teams, were modelled with evolutionary and genetic algorithms and then injection moulded on site. The photometric curves are smoother and more rounded, delivering peak intensity at 0° and guaranteeing a floor illuminance of 10.8 lx. This lets us span a broad mounting height range while holding uniformity on the floor and maximising luminaire spacing.

Absolute precision.

Developing this new lens family was a challenge. Any microscopic change in geometry, internal stress, surface blemish or barely perceptible deviation would skew the photometric curve. To achieve millimetre level accuracy we used state of the art, fully electric injection moulding. Operating at temperatures above 90 °C, the technology reproduces highly complex volumes with impeccable accuracy.

Heat dissipation.

LINEAR’s thermal management system relies on high conductivity materials and efficient convection to keep the LED at its ideal operating temperature, safeguarding both performance and service life. The purpose built heat sink places extra aluminium mass directly over the diode, pulling heat away as quickly as possible. Strategic slots increase the surface area exposed to air, accelerating convection and driving that heat safely outwards.

LINEAR and Daisalux.

LINEAR answers a clear market need with a complete solution that reflects the Daisalux ethos: integration, versatile application and outstanding features. Above all, its very name encapsulates our brand mission: observing without intruding and helping to protect people.
